Storm Point
Storm Point started development on February 2020 and was entirely designed, built, and shipped working from home.
Key features of Storm Point include varied landscapes such as sandy beaches, dense jungles, and rocky cliffs, offering players numerous strategic opportunities and gameplay experiences. The map also emphasizes verticality, with high elevation points and deep valleys, creating intense combat scenarios.
Throughout the design process, I focused on balancing beauty and functionality, ensuring that each area of the map was visually appealing and served a tactical purpose. The map had several goals to make the overall game a better experience. the first was trying to reduce negative third-party encounters, which I tackled by not using the redeploy balloons, which had become a staple of player movement on all Apex Legends maps.
In their place, I developed the gravity cannons: a fast movement method that shot the player quickly to a pre-determined location. This allowed players to still move around the map quickly, outrun the ring, and be predictable to other players.
