Uncharted 4
New Devon is the first of the DLC maps I designed for Uncharted 4. DLC maps are always fun because typically you’re not crunching on them and you’ve had time to play the game with the public so you can embrace gameplay styles that never developed in the office.
Devon is the largest map in Uncharted 4, and since team sizes never change between modes there was a delicate balance to try and make the level large without the problem of players feeling lost or that they can’t find enemies. There was also a lack of proper bases for objective modes in the other maps, an issue I specially addressed in New Devon.
This level also inherited some of my River idea about spawning outside of the map and sliding over a waterfall. The waterfall turned into a mudslide inside a dilapidated house, but the trick is that initial start spawns rotated between matches, so there are some games where you get these initial slides spawns and other games where you don’t get them, making the times you do feel special.
